An explosion near a passenger bus killed six people and injured 50 others in southwestern Pakistan on Monday, a senior government official told CNN.
Irfan Shah Gharsheen, of Mastung district in Balochistan province, said a bomb on a motorbike parked on the side of the road exploded when the bus passed by.
He said the incident took place in the Gen area of Mastung district, 90 kilometers (about 56 miles) southeast of Quetta, the provincial capital of Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
Gharsheen said the target of the bomb was a convoy of vehicles that was carrying Shia Muslims. He said the bomb exploded right after the convoy passed.
He said the bus was carrying passengers from Quetta to Mastung.
Militants have targeted Shia Muslims for years in Balochistan, which has been beset by sectarian violence.
