(CNN) -- An Irish army bomb squad searched the Israeli Embassy in Dublin after a suspicious device was reported Tuesday, but declared the incident a false alarm, police said.

Police said the embassy was evacuated, but Israel's Foreign Ministry said it wasn't.

"Nothing happened. The police took care of some suspicious object I think or something -- I don't know exactly what it was. But at any rate, there was no incident and the embassy wasn't evacuated at any point," Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said.

A package was investigated and declared to be harmless, the embassy said.

CNN's Bharati Naik and Joseph Netto contributed to this report.
