Violence continues to mar life in Iraq

(CNN) -- As the 10th anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq nears, violence still plagues Baghdad and other cities in the nation.

At least nine people died from violence across the country on Monday, authorities said.

In the capital, three employees with the trade, environment or health ministries were shot and killed in three incidents, and two civilians also were shot dead, Baghdad police said.

In the Dibbs district about 270 kilometers (167 miles) northwest of Baghdad, three people were killed and more than 50 people were wounded when a car bomb exploded outside a police station, officials in Kirkuk said.

The head of al-Rutba local council died Monday in a hospital in Ramadi, a day after he was shot by several people.

Next week will mark 10 years since a coalition of troops led by the United States toppled the regime of longtime dictator Saddam Hussein.
