Bag snatcher feels the pane, still gets away

- A man snatches a bag from a woman and sprints for the exit
- He runs through a glass window instead of the glass door next to it
- An accomplice helps him make good his escape
(CNN) -- His getaway was almost bungled from the get-go.
An Australian bag-snatcher made a really poor choice when he tried to sprint out of a shopping mall after taking a woman's purse: He slammed through a plate glass window and knocked himself out.
Despite choosing to go through the floor-length window instead of the sliding glass door next to it, he made good his escape with the help of an accomplice. Police are now looking for them, said Inspector Ian Clarke of Western Australia Police.
Video from a security camera at the mall in Ballajura shows how the crime unfolded Sunday.
The thief grabs the handbag from a 59-year-old woman and runs to the exit. There he goes face-first into the pane, falls through and collapses unconscious onto the pavement outside while the glass door slides open and shut behind him.
A group of concerned bystanders try to help him, unaware they are dealing with an escaping thief.
A second man, after first trying to drag the first man away, then pulls up in a car and the thief eventually staggers toward it. Police said the second man, driving a stolen car, forced the good Samaritans to back off by saying he had a gun.
The thief left blood at the scene and police are using it to check DNA against their database.
Clarke said authorities are confident they will find the two suspects shortly. The woman whose bag was taken was unhurt.
