McIlroy misery – World No. 2 Rory McIlroy described himself as "brain dead" and "unconscious" after shooting an eight-over-par 79 on day one of the British Open.

Out of the Woods – A solid back nine at Muirfield kept 14-time major winner Tiger Woods in the hunt on two under.
Slope star – Mingling with the Muirfield crowd was Olympic champion skier Lindsey Vonn, who is keeping her beau Woods company in Scotland.
Dried up – Phil Mickelson was one of a number of golfers who complained the Muirfield course was dry, fast and firm, especially around the pins.
Old master – American Zach Johnson - winner of the Masters in 2007 - held the lead after day one at the 2013 British Open thanks to a five-under-par round of 66.
