Editor's note:The Black Sea resort of Sochi, the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics, is in south-east Russia, an area that borders several regions with a history of unrest. To the east, a movement for an independent Chechnya has spawned an insurgency that has spilled into neighboring republics in the North Caucasus region, including Dagestan. To the south are the disputed regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which Georgia and Russia fought over in 2008
