Auditorium roof collapses during a village wedding
Authorities say at least 9 dead, scores injured
An old auditorium collapsed at a village wedding Thursday night in eastern China, killing at least nine people and injuring some 90 others, local officials said.
Firefighters ended their rescue efforts after finding no one trapped under the rubble, the Pan’an County government said in a statement, adding that the authorities were still investigating the cause of the collapse.
It occurred around 6 p.m. (5 a.m. ET) in Pan’an in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province.
More than 200 villagers were attending a wedding banquet inside the brick-and-wood building, according to the official statement.
