Quetta, Pakistan (CNN) -- Two people were killed when an explosive was detonated in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province on Saturday, police said.

A police official told CNN that militants planted an IED in the Seerat Chowk area of Balochistan's Khuzdar district.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but police suspect that Baloch separatists were behind the incident.

At least 27 people were injured in the blast, including five security personnel, police say.

Separatists in Balochistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan, have carried out a handful of attacks since Pakistan's formation in the hopes of establishing an independent state.
