Former White House spokesman Jay Carney, who’s now a political analyst for CNN, entered a highly animated dispute with Sen. John McCain after the President’s prime time speech on Wednesday.
Talking over each other in a tense exchange on CNN, the two disagreed sharply over the Obama administration’s withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq in 2011, the situation in Syria and how to deal with the ISIS terror threat.
McCain, a consistent critic of the Obama administration’s foreign policy, accused Carney of “saying facts that are patently false,” while Carney argued McCain was only presenting facts that “you believe are true.”
