It’s featured only a smattering of matches this season, but the premier division of Finnish football might just pique the interest of sequence lovers.

The 12 teams in the Veikkausliiga are separated by 11 points, ascending perfectly in increments of one from last-placed VPS up to leaders HJK, giving the division the appearance of perhaps being the world’s most orderly league.

“Finnish football league table is a work of art,” tweeted web analyst Ville Kääriä.

In fairness to VPS, they have played two games less than four other teams, including pacesetters HJK, and will be hoping to improve on last year’s fourth-placed finish – one position outside of the European competition qualifying places.

However, the Veikkausliiga is unlikely to remain as tight if last season’s title race is anything to go by.

Then HJK ran out comfortable champions – finishing 13 points clear of nearest rivals SJK.

After their domestic success HJK became the first Finnish club to play in the Europa League group stages, finishing third in their group.
