A magnitude-7.2 earthquake hit a sparsely populated region in Tajikistan on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, rattling buildings in nearby nations.

There were no immediate reports of damage.

The quake’s epicenter was 109 kilometers (68 miles) west of the remote mountainous region of Murghob.

It struck at a depth of 26 kilometers and rumbled buildings as far away as New Delhi and the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, witnesses said.

Tajikistan is in central Asia, and it borders Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan.
