Remembering Joey Feek
Beloved singer Joey Feek was half of the duo Joey + Rory with her husband. Last month, she lost her battle with cancer.
On Sunday night Martina McBride and Darius Rucker paid tribute to her while presenting the the best vocal group award.
“Joey was more than a wonderful singer and an ACM-winning artist along with her husband Rory,” McBride said. “She was a beloved mom, daughter, family member and friend.”
The audience gave Feek a standing ovation.
Katy Perry and Dolly Parton duet
Perry and Parton might seem an unlikely pair, but the audience dug it.
The two certainly share a fondness for flamboyant presentations and were sparkly and colorful in their outfits. They opened with Parton’s classic “Coat of Many Colors” before singing “Jolene” and “9 to 5.”
Making history
Miranda Lambert is a beast.
Her female vocalist of the year win was her seventh in the row, which now ties her with Reba McEntire for most wins in that category.
Meanwhile, Chris Stapleton became the first person since Clint Black in 1990 to win both new male vocalist and male vocalist of the year.
Stapleton won the night with six awards, including album of the year.
Carrie Underwood’s hot performance
The former “American Idol” winner performed her new single, “Church Bells,” which spotlights domestic violence.
Underwood left it all on the stage. At one point she even performed percussion.
