Eric Trump previewed his Republican convention speech to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday, saying his prime-time address will focus on why the country needs his father in the White House.
“I wrote my speech from the heart and I spent a lot of time on it,” Trump told Blitzer, pledging to be both genuine and passionate during his remarks Wednesday night. “I care about the subject matter, I care about him.” Trump’s older brother, Donald Jr., and half-sister, Tiffany, spoke Tuesday night and daughter Ivanka will address the convention on Thursday night to introduce her father before his main address.
Following the plagiarism scandal surrounding his stepmother’s convention address, Eric Trump looked to erase any notion of inauthenticity as it pertains to the words he’ll offer from the Quicken Loans Arena stage.
“(My speech) certainly wasn’t something that I was going to outsource,” said Trump, who is executive vice president of The Trump Organization. “It’s just too important to me. I’m going to speak from the heart tonight. I think I have an amazing speech and I think it’ll be great.”
He also said he hoped to explain his father’s motivations for seeking the presidency.
“I focus on the question of ‘why.’ Why he’s doing this, why the country needs a person like him,” Trump told Blitzer. “I think I give a good inside look into what his life was, what his life is going to be, the questions facing the nation, why this whole mission matters to him.”
Eric Trump’s speech will follow Ted Cruz Wednesday evening and will come before the address given by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and his wife, Callista.
