Shooting occurs at a manufacturing plant in Athens, Tennessee

Two people working are shot and killed by a co-worker, who kills self

CNN  —

Two people at a parts manufacturing plant in eastern Tennessee were shot and killed Thursday by a co-worker, Athens police Chief Charles Ziegler said

The gunman killed himself, Ziegler said. The man, who was found in a bathroom, used a pistol, the chief said.

Authorities would not identify the victims because the investigation is just getting started.

Witnesses told police that there was an attempted shooting at the front office of the factory, then the gunman went to the north side of the plant.

There were no injuries, Ziegler said.

The shooting was first reported just after 4 p.m. ET.

The incident occurred across the street from a high school, which temporarily went into lockdown, McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy said.

CNN’s Marlena Baldacci contributed to this report.
