WOLF BLITZER

Wolf Blitzer is CNN's senior White House correspondent and the host of Inside Politics Weekend, which airs Saturdays from 7:30 - 8 p.m. and replays on Sundays from 10:30 - 11 a.m. Blitzer has covered President Bill Clinton since his election in November 1992. In 1994, American Journalism Review cited him and CNN as the overwhelming choice of readers for the coveted Best in the Business Award for "best network coverage of the Clinton administration."

Previously, Blitzer served as CNN's military affairs correspondent at the Pentagon from 1990 - 1992. He was among the team of CNN reporters who won the prestigious Golden CableAce Award from the National Academy of Cable Programming for their coverage of the Gulf War.

For more than two decades, Blitzer has reported on a wide range of major breaking stories around the world. He flew to Moscow shortly after the failed coup in August 1991 and spent nearly a month reporting on the Soviet military. He was among the first Western reporters invited into KGB headquarters in Moscow for a rare inside look into the Soviet intelligence apparatus. He returned to Moscow in December 1991 to cover the collapse of the Soviet Union and the transition from Mikhail Gorbachev to Boris Yeltsin.

After many years of reporting from the nation's capital, including as Washington correspondent for The Jerusalem Post, Blitzer joined CNN in 1990.

In addition to his Washington beat, Blitzer covered breaking stories around the world, most notably in the Middle East. He was in Egypt in 1977, covering the first Israeli-Egyptian peace conference. In 1979, he accompanied President Carter to Egypt and Israel during the final round of negotiations that resulted in the signing of the peace treaty. In 1982, Blitzer was in Beirut during the withdrawal of PLO and Syrian forces.

Blitzer is the author of two books, Between Washington and Jerusalem: A Reporter's Notebook (Oxford University Press, 1985) and Territory of Lies (Harper and Row, 1989), the latter on the Pollard spy case. It was cited by The New York Times Book Review as one of the most notable books of 1989. He has also written articles for numerous publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and The Los Angeles Times.

Blitzer has a bachelor of arts in history from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a master of arts in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C.
