Perot, Lamm Qualify In Reform Party Survey

[Perot and Lamm]

DALLAS (AllPolitics, July 29) -- A mail-back survey of Reform Party members today yielded the expected result: The two contenders for the new party's presidential nomination will be Ross Perot and Dick Lamm.

Party officials did not release vote totals from the nomination petition survey. Under the rules, a contender had to secure at least 10 percent of the votes of party members to qualify for the actual balloting next month.

Reform Party members will choose between Texas businessman Perot, the party's founder and financier, and former Colorado governor Lamm at a two-part, bicoastal convention.

The two men will deliver speeches Aug. 11 in Long Beach, Calif., then party members will vote the following week. The winner will be announced Aug. 18 in a second gathering at Valley Forge, Pa.
