Is Clinton's Honeymoon Ending?

WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Feb. 27) -- President Bill Clinton's second honeymoon may be coming to an end, according to the latest CNN/USA TODAY/Gallup Poll. A majority of Americans disapprove of how he is handling taxes, the deficit, health care and Medicare.

The number of Americans who approve of how he is handling each of those issues has dropped significantly since 1996. In addition, a majority once approved of how Clinton was handling foreign affairs and crime, but those figures have dropped under 50 percent today. Clinton still gets high marks, however, on the economy, education, race relations and welfare policy.

The poll of 1,036 adults, including 379 parents of children under 18, was conducted Feb. 24-26, 1997. It has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.
