President Clinton Is America's Most Admired Man

Hillary Ēlinton tops list of most admired living woman

By Keating Holland/CNN

WASHINGTON (Dec. 30) -- President Bill Clinton remains the country's most admired man living today, as he has been since the first year of his presidency, according to a new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll.

Placing second in the survey is evangelist Billy Graham, moving up one spot from last year, followed by Pope John Paul II and Colin Powell.

First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton tops the list of the most admired woman living today, the first time since 1993 that she has won that honor outright.

Mother Teresa, who topped the public's list in the last three years, was not eligible because Gallup by tradition asked the same question it has for almost 50 years: "What woman... living today in any part of the world do you admire most?"

Princess Diana was similarly ineligible. Nonetheless, both women were mentioned by more respondents than anyone except Mrs. Clinton.

Rounding out the list of most admired women living today were Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Bush, and Margaret Thatcher.

The survey of conducted Dec. 18-21.
