April 7 Election Set For Bono's Seat

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AllPolitics, Jan. 16) -- California Gov. Pete Wilson set April 7 as the date for a special election to fill the congressional seat left vacant by the death of Rep. Sonny Bono (R-Calif.)

If no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote, a runoff will be held to fill the 44th congressional district seat.

Bono, a 60s pop star turned politician, was killed Jan. 5 when he ran into a tree while skiing in Lake Tahoe, Calif.
