Sen. Boxer Launches Re-Election Campaign
LOS ANGELES (AllPolitics, Feb. 17) -- Formally launching her bid for re-election Tuesday, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) pledged to continue her fight for quality child care and health care. Following the announcement, Boxer embarked on a "Road To Victory Tour," a four-day, 13-city tour of the state , including stops in San Francisco, San Diego, Fresno and Sacramento. Health care is a key issue for Boxer, who supports doubling research funding for diseases such as AIDS, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and diabetes, and a "Bill of Rights" for health maintenance organization patients. Boxer also vowed to work to preserve abortion rights and fight crime by adding police officers and getting guns off the streets. Elected in 1992, Boxer has served one term as a U.S. senator after a 10-year tenure in the House of Representatives. She is running unopposed for the Democratic party's nomination for the Senate seat. Republicans battling for their party's nomination are Rep. Frank Riggs, state Treasurer Matt Fong, and multimillionaire businessman Darrel Issa. |
