Jerry Brown Leaves Democratic Party
OAKLAND, Calif. (AllPolitics, March 18) -- Jerry Brown has cut his ties with the Democratic Party and has registered to vote as a nonpartisan.
The former Democratic governor of California, Democratic
presidential candidate and Democratic party chairman has ties that run deep in the party. His father, Pat, was governor from 1958 to 1966, and his sister, Kathleen, was state treasurer and ran for governor.
But Brown says both parties are "deeply corrupted" and said it is "time for something fresh and new."
He's running for mayor of Oakland, but the switch won't matter because the race is nonpartisan.
