Ex-Gov. Tucker Goes Before Grand Jury
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AllPolitics, March 18) -- Former Arkansas Gov. Jim Guy Tucker, who pleaded guilty in February to tax evasion charges and agreed to help special prosecutor Ken Starr's Whitewater investigation, testified before Starr's Little Rock grand jury Wednesday.
Beforehand, Tucker declined to describe his planned testimony, but said he had been questioned before by Starr's office, and expected to be asked about the same topics in his grand jury appearance.
Lawyers familiar with the Whitewater probe said Tucker has information about first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's work at the Rose Law Firm on the real estate development known as Castle Grande. The lawyers said Tucker's information on Castle Grande also touches on Webster Hubbell and his father-in-law, Little Rock businessman Seth Ward.
Tucker, who was convicted in 1996 in an earlier Whitewater trial,
pleaded guilty last month to avoiding $3 million in income taxes
through a sham bankruptcy in the 1980s.
