Oliphant Show At Library Of Congress
60 of his political cartoons to go on display
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, March 30) -- Political cartoon great Pat Oliphant's cartoons will soon be on display at America's library, the Library of Congress.
The exhibit, featuring 60 works, will be in the South Gallery of the Great Hall in the Jefferson building. "I can't think of a better place
for my works to be, in the library of Congress overlooking the Capitol," Oliphant said.
Oliphant, known for his editorial cartoons spoofing world leaders,
politics and scandal, won the 1966 Pulitzer prize for editorial cartooning for his drawing of Ho Chi Minh, the president of North Vietnam, carrying a dead Viet Cong. Oliphant told CNN his favorite leader to draw was former President Richard Nixon, but that was only until President Bill Clinton was sworn in.
"Clinton's [term] turned out to be beautiful. In fact, it's an
embarrassment of riches. We have now the situation of reality getting ahead of
satire and I'm trying each day to keep up with it!" he said.
The exhibit runs from April 2-July 6. Admission is free.
