Attorney General To Meet With MLK's Widow

WASHINGTON (April 7) -- Coretta Scott King, wife of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., will get an audience with the nation's top law enforcement officer to air her family's concerns about the investigation into her husband's death.
Mrs. King and Attorney General Janet Reno are expected to meet Wednesday around 4 p.m. ET at the Justice Department, sources tell CNN.
Reno directed her staff to set up a meeting with Mrs. King after receiving a telephone call from White House counsel Charles Ruff asking her to listen to Mrs. King's concerns.
The King family has expressed doubts about whether James Earl Ray killed King without considerable assistance. They also question the thoroughness of past investigations into the King assassination.
But Justice Department sources tell CNN there is considerable confusion as to whether the federal government has jurisdiction to investigate. It is also unclear if there is any new evidence on which to base a new investigation.
Mrs. King had no immediate comment about the proposed meeting with Reno, a King family spokesman said Monday evening
King was killed by a single rifle shot as he stood on the balcony of the
Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968. Numerous memorials marked the 30th anniversary of the assassination over the weekend.
