Clinton lawyers want to meet with Schippers

WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, October 13) - White House officials say they are awaiting a call from lead House Judiciary Committee investigator David Schippers to schedule a meeting with the president's impeachment defense team.

The White House had voiced hope last week that such a meeting could take place Tuesday but it is now unclear whether it will happen this week.

Clinton's team wants to meet to discuss the timetable for hearings and its role in taking depositions and cross-examining witnesses.

Schippers remains in Chicago, where he traveled after the House's impeachment inquiry vote last week to spend some time with his family.

The House voted to launch an impeachment investigation of Clinton and whether he committed perjury or obstructed justice trying to hide his sexual affair with ex-White House intern Monica Lewinsky. The Judiciary Committee plans hearings soon after the November 3 elections.
