CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AllPolitics, June 23) -- Saying the "the trust is frayed" in government, Democratic presidential hopeful Bill Bradley spoke to Iowa voters this week about the need for a "fresh start," referencing and perhaps associating Vice President Al Gore with the impeachment scandal that has dogged President Bill Clinton.
While insisting he isn't trying to taint Gore, the only other Democrat running for that party's 2000 nomination, Bradley admits "what I am finding voters saying is they want a fresh start."

"We have to repair that trust ... I think anytime a public official lies, he undermines his own authority and squanders the public trust," Bradley said referring to Clinton's impeachment trial and the public's reaction to the more than year long drama.
Gore strongly defended Clinton during the trial and the public's weariness with the Clinton Administration's scandals may be hurting Gore in hypothetical poll match-ups with Republican front-runner Texas Gov. George W. Bush.
But the Clinton connection doesn't seem to be hurting Gore in his race with Bradley, who was on his tenth visit to Iowa Tuesday. Gore enjoys a substantial lead in both polls and fund-raising against the former New Jersey senator.
