Bryan Low - EMI Music Asia's Vice President of New Media

Zap! Another alien blown to bits. Shooting down interplanetary vermin — of the arcade variety at least — has become one of Bryan Low's specialties of late. The EMI Music Asia new media vice president can often be found engaged in a game of Galaxian on his Palm Pilot while waiting in the airport. Given that the Hong Kong-based Low spends about half of every month traveling around the region, there's plenty of opportunity to hone his top-gun reflexes. "I get on a plane more often than the MTR [subway] these days," Low says.

EMI is one of the first record labels to move into the sale of music online, and Low is charged with making it happen in Asia. He has to help his company figure out what consumers want, what they really, really want (to paraphrase EMI artists the Spice Girls) from a major record label in the Internet age. Galaxian aside, tech is not just a diversion or a business to Low. It's also a lifeline. The 40-year-old father of two uses wired and wireless devices to stay connected to his family ("they keep me centered," he says), to contact friends and relatives in Singapore where he was born and raised, and to reach contacts in the U.S., where he went to college. "It's great that with technology, we can be global citizens today," he says. Low's personal music tastes are international, too, ranging from British rocker Robbie Williams to Asian pop divas Sandy Lam and Faye Wong. Low keeps in touch.
