E-vesting: Watch on the Web
Asia's information-technology revolution is just beginning. Here's our E-stock portfolio, plus financial sites to see

Where to go for Stock Tips
Talking E-Heads

Bangalore to Kyoto, Asians are starting the "get" the Internet. Corporations are retooling for e-commerce, while scores of start-ups are forming with the intent of becoming the next Amazon.com. Investors, too, have taken notice: witness the Internet-stock frenzy in Hong Kong, Australia and Japan, where buyers are bidding up shares in even the most implausible Net wannabes.

The timing is right, so we're unveiling the Asiaweek.com Portfolio - a list of 20 Asian stocks that are, or aspire to be, Internet and information technology players. Consider it to be an observation post from which to watch Asia's information economy unfold. In the group, you'll find Net-smart telecommunications companies, Internet service providers, electronics manufacturers, e-commerce companies and others, both large-cap and small.

Punters Advisory: the portfolio is neither a typical portfolio in which stocks are chosen to maximize a hypothetical investment, nor is it a pure Net stock index. Rather, it attempts to track Asia's progress through the stock prices of companies with compelling strategies, dominant positions, or promising technologies. The portfolio is subjective, assembled with informal input from regional stock analysts, and weighted by market cap. In each Asiaweek.com issue, we'll chart performance. Over time, we'll add convincing newcomers and delete laggards. And in coming weeks, the portfolio will be posted on this website and updated daily.
