CYBER-PEAK: Meet the team that recently discovered the body of George Mallory, the English mountaineer who disappeared while scaling Mt. Everest in 1924. The expedition's official website includes audio files of their dispatches relaying the news and a historical overview of the theories surrounding what happened to Mallory and his climbing partner, Andrew Irvine. The '99 team also advise on training, gear and routes for modern-day Everest scalers.

HIGH HOPES: How do you top finding Mallory? Eric Simonson, the American leader of the Mallory and Irvine Research Expedition, will continue leading tour groups with International Mountain Guides. Climbs planned for the remainder of 1999 include Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, the Cho Oyu peak in the Himalayas and Irian Jaya's Carstensz Pyramid, recently reopened to climbers by the Indonesian government.
