Short Cuts
LOUNGE MIRAGE Emirates' business- and first-class lounges at Dubai
International Airport opened at the end of June and immediately raised
the bar for airside facilities. The lounges offer showers, business centers
with free Internet access, television areas and hot and cold meals around
the clock. First-class passengers who have a transit wait of more than
eight hours can relax in comfortable bedrooms. Ditto business-class flyers,
but they have to do without ensuite bathrooms. That's still quite a step
up from a free salad bar.
PRIVATE TOURIST Do you love the smell of cordite in the morning?
The Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Royal Thai Army's Special Warfare
Command Unit have teamed up to offer travelers a real Rambo of an experience
in Lop Bure province. Designed to "test the limits of an individual's
courage," the program includes diving off a 10-m tower, skydiving from
a hot-air balloon, jungle survival training, automatic-weapons shooting,
rock climbing and other death defying activities. Call (66-2) 694-1222
to enlist.
