Rula Amin

Rula Amin is a news correspondent based in CNN's Beirut bureau. Since first joining the network at the Jerusalem bureau in 1990, she has been involved in several major international news stories, reporting extensively from the Middle East, including the Hajj in Mecca, the Israeli withdrawal from Southern Lebanon and the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian confrontations from Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Jenin and Rammallah. When the second Palestinian Intifada broke out, Amin traveled to Gaza for three months to cover the story.

In 2003, Amin reported on Operation Iraqi Freedom, providing live updates from throughout the country and the region.

Among her most notable reports is the story she broke during a trip to Damascus of the death of the Syrian President Haffez Al-Assad.

Additionally, Amin secured an interview with Osama bin Laden's brother in Saudi Arabia and conducted the first-ever interview for CNN with Jordan's Crown Prince Abdullah. She was also part of the CNN news team involved in reporting on the 1998 bombing of Baghdad.

From 1994-1997, Amin worked for MBC (Middle East Broadcasting) based in New York. During this time, she reported on the trial of Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahaman, the Egyptian cleric accused of masterminding the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Previously, Amin spent four years with CNN covering the first Palestinian Intifada, the 1991 Gulf War and the start of the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks in Egypt, Madrid and Washington, D.C. She also followed the implementation of the Oslo accords and the return of Yasser Arafat to Gaza.

Amin was born in Jerusalem and grew up in Ramallah. She attended Birzeit University where she earned a degree in sociology. She also has a master's in journalism from Columbia University.
