Deborah Feyerick

Deborah Feyerick joined CNN as a New York correspondent in May 2000. Feyerick, an award-winning, breaking-news reporter, specializes in criminal justice, terrorism and law enforcement.

After Hurricane Katrina swept through Louisiana, Feyerick was one of the first to report on the nursing home residents who drowned in their beds, as well as on the desperate conditions inside New Orleans hospitals. When she returned to New York, Feyerick helped create a segment called "Status Alerts," filing updates on the hurricane’s aftermath.

Feyerick's extensive live reports include CNN's coverage of the two-month trial of Martha Stewart and later her release from prison. Amid kidnappings of Americans in Iraq in 2004, Feyerick got the first sit-down interview with the family of one of the hostages. The live, unscripted interview lasted eight minutes and was quoted the next day in dozens of newspapers around the world.

Among the many trials Feyerick has covered for CNN are the U.S. Embassy bombings trial, the trial of Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel, the trial of basketball all-star Jayson Williams and the court proceedings of admitted terrorist Zacharias Moussaoui. Her reporting runs the gamut from stories on sex traffickers and fugitive hunters to political conventions and entertainment. She covered the Sept. 11 attacks, the 2000 presidential recount, the crash of Egypt Air Flight 800 and the death of John F. Kennedy Jr.

Feyerick was part of CNN's 9/11 terrorism investigation team that won a 2001 National Headliner Award for coverage of the attacks on America. She was nominated for two national Emmys, one for team coverage of al Qaeda and the other for team coverage of the police shooting of an African immigrant in New York. Feyerick won a 2005 Gracie Award for her story on sperm donor children seeking their biological fathers.

Before joining CNN, Feyerick worked as a reporter and anchor for NY1 News, Time Warner’s 24-hour New York City news channel. She covered breaking news, urban issues and politics and traveled to France to report on the 50th anniversary of D-Day. While at NY1, she received three Emmy nominations for her coverage of AIDS issues. Feyerick worked as a special correspondent for Life magazine covering the Los Angeles riots and the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Feyerick earned a bachelor of arts degree in English literature from Columbia University.
