Patrick Snell

Patrick Snell is an international sports correspondent for CNN. He is based at CNN's world headquarters in Atlanta, where he covers the major sporting news and events for CNN's international and domestic programming.

Snell most recently covered the 2006 British Open where he had a one-on-one interview with champion Tiger Woods, who took the Clarett Jug for the second year in a row. Snell also covered both the 2005 and 2006 Masters at Augusta National in the U.S. and interviewed the winners Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, respectively.

During the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, Snell reported from Berlin and interviewed football legend Pelé and FIFA president Joseph (Sepp) Blatter.

In 2002, Snell was CNN's Japan-based FIFA World Cup reporter covering the tournament from day one up to Brazil's triumph over Germany in Yokahama. Snell then travelled to Scotland to cover Ernie Els' first victory at the British Open at Muirfield and then to the Belfry in England, where he witnessed Europe's dramatic Ryder Cup victory over America.

During his CNN career, he has also reported on the 2000 European Football Championships in Belgium and the Netherlands, the 2001 and 2002 UEFA Champions League Finals, the 2001 French Open at Roland Garros and the Championships at Wimbledon.

Before joining the CNN staff in July 2000, Snell had nine years of experience as a sports and news reporter and anchor for Granada Television in Manchester and Radio City Liverpool in the UK.

Born in Southport, England, Snell earned a degree in Media Journalism from Darlington College of Technology in North East England and a languages degree at the University of Liverpool. He is fluent in French and Spanish.
