PRIMARY RESULTS: Dick Gephardt
Elected as a U.S. representative from Missouri in 1976, Dick Gephardt served as the top Democrat in the House between 1989 and 2002. He began his second presidential run in February 2003, only to quit the race 11 months later after a fourth-place showing in the Iowa caucuses.
