EARTH DAY 1996

You said it ...

Here are some selected responses sent to us about Earth Day and the environment. . .

I think that Earth day is a good idea. It is a day that we remember our earth and try to respect it. . . . We always see garbage in the streets and pollution in the air. Earth day helps remind us to at least try to pick up some of the garbage.

. . . I was somewhat unaware Earth Day was approaching. But coincidentally, I realized that my being a vegetarian, thereby not supporting an infrastructure which presently devastates rainforest to allow for bovine grazing and feed crops, and also bicycling to work, thereby releasing only my own bodily greenhouse gases into the atmosphere during my commute . . . sets a good example for those who really want to do something positive for the environment.

. . . Concerning Earth Day I must say that I find the whole thing pretty pathetic, no a better word is, sad. Since we have only one place to live I find it very scary to see how we are destroying our home planet in the name of money, greed and petty nationalistic positions and views. Personally, I do not believe that the human race will be around much longer if we keep up the ways that we are moving. . .

. . .I feel that all this Earth Day crap is a bunch of bull. The simple fact is that we can never destroy our planet, it is impossible, no matter how hard we try. . .

God put man (Oopps, and woman, wouldn't want to make the feminist angry) here to be the masters of the world, over all the animals and plants. . . .

. . . I don't believe we will destroy the earth, and most people that I talk to don't either. Common sense says that you should make your reasons more basic. People must first care about each other and themselves. Then we will do something about the state of our planet. We will change things because of our children and our neighbors, not because of something so big that they can't grasp it. . .

I think if all the people who spend so much time on "Earth Day" projects and such, would spend this time instead on helping poor families in need, teaching a kid to read and write, spend time helping an elderly person or maybe volunteer to baby-sit a child in his home if his mother must work, the Earth would be a much better place.
