Vagabond 'NewsRadio' hopes Tuesday spot will be its charm

(CNN) -- All those "NewsRadio" fans out there can breathe a sigh of relief.
The outlandish comedy is coming back this fall, landing this time in a better time slot.
QuickTime movies (892K/20 sec.) small version (2.1M/20 sec.) large version The critically acclaimed show -- which has shifted nights at least three times since its inception -- will air on Tuesday nights between powerhouses "Mad About You" and "Frasier."
"It was finally explained to me why (the show was shifted so many times)," says actor Dave Foley. "Apparently our show is part of the witness protection program."
Although changing time slots have become commonplace on network television, the cast and crew of "NewsRadio" are tired of packing up their bags.
"My spirit is pretty much broken. I don't even want to be an actor anymore," says actor Phil Hartman. "I just want to be a sailor. I want to be a Frisbee thrower or something less painful."
VXtreme streaming video The show has built a solid fan base on its eccentric characters.
Andy Dick's character, Matthew, is a highly nervous street reporter, for example.
"Andy is not as idiotic as Matthew, and he's not an idiot, he's just naive," Dick says.
Foley, graduate of "The Kids in the Hall," runs the station.
"I proved them wrong," Foley says of the critics. "In fact, I did act my way out of a paper bag. So there, naysayers."
Maybe President Clinton could end any lingering tension between NBC and "NewsRadio."
"Let the hard feelings be set aside. Let talent come to the forefront," says Hartman, doing his best Clinton impression. "You don't have to have a pretty smile and long legs to get a shot on NBC."
