Nominees for leading actor in a musical

Robert Cuccioli
"Jekyll & Hyde"

Cuccioli plays both Jekyll and Hyde in this adaptation of the Stevenson classic; he came to the show's national tour after playing Javert for a year in the Broadway production of "Les Miserables." He has also won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Brilliant Ensemble Performance for his work in the off-Broadway revue "And The World Goes 'Round."

Jim Dale
"Candide"

Dale, a veteran of the stage, plays multiple roles, including those of Voltaire and Dr. Pangloss, in this Voltaire novel adaptation. This is not his first Tony nomination; he was also nominated for his roles in "Scapino" in 1974 and "Joe Egg" in 1985, both of which won him Outer Critics Awards; and he won a Tony for his role in "Barnum" in 1980. He has also acted in both film and television -- making movies like "Huckleberry Finn" for PBS, and several movies in the British series "Carry On."

Daniel McDonald
"Steel Pier"

McDonald makes his Broadway debut with "Steel Pier," in which he plays pilot and marathon dancer Bill Kelly. McDonald has also had appearances in a number of television shows, including "Cagney & Lacey" and "Murder, She Wrote," and wrote and appeared in his own one-man play, "Chesterfield," which played at theaters in New York and Los Angeles.

James Naughton
"Chicago"

Naughton plays Billy Flynn in this revival of "Chicago." Past acclaim includes a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award for his appearance in "City of Angels."

Nominees for supporting actor in a musical

Joel Blum
"Steel Pier"

Blum plays Buddy Becker in "Steel Pier." His past Broadway appearances include a stint as one of the original cast members of "42nd Street," and he was nominated in 1995 for his featured actor role in the musical revival "Showboat."

Chuck Cooper
"The Life"

Cooper plays a pimp named Memphis in this musical about the dark side of the city. He has appeared in several Broadway shows, including "Someone to Watch Over Me," and has played lead roles in productions of various Shakespearean works around the country.

Andre De Shields
"Play On!"

De Shields, who plays Jester in "Play On!", appeared in the original Broadway production of "The Wiz," as well as the Broadway show "Ain't Misbehavin'."

Sam Harris
"The Life"

As con artist Jojo, Harris plays Master of Ceremonies in "The Life." Harris was last seen on Broadway in "Grease," for which he received a Drama Desk nomination. His musical career was launched when he won the "Star Search" grand championship in its first season; since then, he has made two recordings, "Sam Harris" and "Sam-I-Am," each of which sold over 1 million copies.
