Ah, for a night at the Emmys
(CNN) -- Unless you can wrangle press credentials or quickly join the cast of "ER," you'll have to watch the Emmys from your living room this year like the rest of us mere mortals. But wouldn't it be fun to attend? Here's the lowdown on when and where the Primetime Emmy Awards are being handed out -- and what to watch for.
What: 49th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards
When: September 14, 1997 at 5 p.m. PT, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Pasadena, California -- or, for the TV-bound, the show will be broadcast live on CBS. The awards broadcast reaches an international television audience of 60 million people, according to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Master of Ceremonies: Bryant Gumbel, 15-year veteran of the "Today" show and previous host of several prime-time specials.
Of note: The awards ceremony will be Webcast on the Emmys Web site for the third consecutive year. The site also aired the Primetime nominations live in July.
The Governors Ball will be held immediately following the awards, at the adjacent Pasadena Civic Exhibition Hall. That party will NOT be broadcast on the Web.
And -- for those of you who pay attention to the credits -- most of the behind-the-scenes people named in the credits won't be a part of the Primetime Emmy awards. You can watch a live showing of the backstagers' ceremony, the 1997 Creative Arts Awards, at the Emmys Webcast site on Sept. 7, 1997 at 5 p.m. PT.
