From Correspondent Dennis Michael

Jennifer Lopez's career continues to pick up speed. The actress, who starred in "Selena" and "Anaconda," will play the central character in "Thieves" for Universal Pictures, according to Daily Variety. She'll begin work on the film after finishing work on "Out of Sight" with George Clooney.

Christopher Lambert is in Transylvania playing one of the first action heroes in history. The French actor has begun work on the film version of "Beowulf" which is shooting in an ancient castle in Romania.

"Over the Top" has bottomed out. ABC has chosen to cancel the series starring Tim Curry and Annie Potts due to poor ratings. "Soul Man" will move into "Over the Top's Place" and "Grace Under Fire" will be plugged into the empty timeslot. "Hiller and Diller" is also in trouble. The network has pulled it off the schedule until the November sweeps contest is over.

The Chevy Chase Theater, previously known as the "Star Search" theater, is getting yet another new name. Daily Variety reports the theater will now be called "Nickelodeon on Sunset" as Nickelodeon will shoot "All That" there in the near future.

Jodie Foster

Jodie Foster has a new project. The actress is now in talks with Paramount Pictures with an eye toward starring in "Double Jeopardy." The thriller would be directed by Bruce Beresford.

There are already some early murmurings about the upcoming Hollywood award season. The Golden Globes should be a big night for Shirley MacLaine. The actress is set to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Entertainment Field at the annual award fest set for January 18.

Jennifer Jason Leigh apparently won't be starring in a Broadway revival of "Wait Until Dark" after all. The Hollywood Reporter trade paper indicates Marisa Tomei will play the lead instead.

Brooks and Dunn are getting ready to hit the road. The country duo is planning its 1998 concert tour, and Mobil Oil has agreed to sponsor it for the second year in a row. Brooks and Dunn will play up to 35 dates on the tour.
