'Twas the Night Before Christmas ...

(CNN) -- And all through the house, celebrities were reading the beloved poem that sets children's hearts thumping with expectation every Christmas Eve.
Whoopi Goldberg's gravelly voice gives it a good beginning, and Daisy Fuentes, Rita Rudner and Bill Paxton help out. Penny Marshall's Brooklyn accent wraps itself nicely around a stanza. She is followed by comics Phil Hartman and Sinbad.
David Crosby and Graham Nash perform a duet, and Debby Boone takes up the song, so to speak. Actors French Stewart, Joely Fisher and Greg Kinnear take it from there.
But, in the end, it seems fitting that it is Angela Lansbury's mature, mellow voice saying, "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night."
