From Correspondent Mark Scheerer

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The members of the B-52s, the preeminent party band known for hits like "Rock Lobster" and "Love Shack," are back this summer with a new greatest hits album and a concert tour.

"Time Capsule" will take fans of the Athens, Georgia, group on a tour revisiting all their favorites, from "Planet Claire" to "Hallucinating Pluto."

'Southern rock pop soul craziness'

Through 20 years and some 20 million albums sold, and even through the AIDS-related death of band member Cindy Wilson's brother, the B-52s say they have stuck to a simple formula for success.

"We basically created our own groove -- Southern rock pop soul craziness," said Fred Schneider. "We just took it to the limit."

Streaking, garden hoses, and tequila

Of course, they had fun, too. After all, they had a "party image" to live up to.

"(The parties were) never X-rated, but we got to 'R'," Schneider said. "Like if a party got boring, we'd all take off our clothes and run through the house."

"We streaked," singer Kate Pierson added. "One time in Athens, I guess I got pretty drunk on tequila, and I ran out and got the garden hose and brought it inside the house. I wasn't invited back to that party."

Wilson returns

Meanwhile, Wilson, who left the band in the early '90s, has returned with a fresh perspective.

"I just had a baby about a year and four months ago, and it's great to be, you know, doing music and being creative and kind of out," Wilson said.

Now the B-52s and their fans can pick up where they left off -- having fun and making music.

"We all had a mission to reinvent rock 'n' roll," band member Keith Strickland said.

"Time Capsule" was released under the band's Reprise label. Long live B-52s rock 'n' roll.
