Schroder
|
LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Rick Schroder, the former child star of "Silver Spoons," is replacing Jimmy Smits on "NYPD Blue." Smits, who announced earlier
that he is leaving the show after four years, will appear in an undetermined number of episodes this fall while his character, Bobby Simone, is written out of the show. Meanwhile, producer Steven Bochco says he's looking forward to working with Schroder. "(He) is a wonderful young actor who will bring tremendous energy to 'NYPD Blue' and allow us writers to approach our sixth season and beyond with fresh ideas," Bochco said.

"The Truman Show"
|
HOLLYWOOD (CNN) -- Andrew Niccol began work on his script for "The Truman Show" in 1991, offsetting claims by a playwright that Niccol stole the idea from him, according to documents filed by Paramount Pictures. Last week playwright Mark Dunn filed a lawsuit alleging that the hit Paramount picture copied his 1992 Off Off Broadway play, "Frank's Life." The studio responded with documents showing, among other items, that Niccol pitched his former manager a drama entitled "The Malcolm Show" in May 1991. One week later, Niccol sent Rossu a one-page treatment for the proposed picture, copyrighted in 1991. "Frank's Life" was performed three times a week -- a year later.

Leno
|
MILWAUKEE (CNN) -- Harley riders might have a reputation for being a tough breed, but some Milwaukee bikers are wincing over wisecracks made by Jay Leno. The "Tonight Show" told his audience about his trip to Harley-Davidson's 95th birthday party in Milwaukee. He cracked that he feels overweight in California, but being in Milwaukee makes him feel slim in comparison -- especially when everybody keeps telling him he looks like he needs another bratwurst. One Harley rider tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the crack wasn't funny, and -- in his words -- "a lot of those fat bikers weren't even from here."

Flynt
|
LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt was married over the weekend at his Los Angeles area
home with his long-time companion and former nurse, Elizabeth
Barrios. Among those attending the ceremony were actor Woody Harrelson
and actress Courtney Love, who played Flynt and his late wife,
Althea Leasure Flynt, in the movie "The People versus Larry Flynt."
The magazine publisher said marriage means more to women than to men. And in his words, "I could have done without it, to tell you the truth."
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Anarchy for VH1? Former Sex Pistols' front man Johnny Rotten will host a new program on the music video channel, introducing videos with his trademark sarcastic commentary. "The Johnny Rotten Show" -- a weekly half-hour magazine, will debut in a late-night time slot. The project is one of a dozen original programming pilots in production at VH1. The Sex Pistols rose to fame in the 1970s with their hard-edge punk anthems "Anarchy in the U.K." and "God Save the Queen."
