NEW YORK (CNN) -- Actor Dennis Quaid, playing the divorced father in the remake of "The Parent Trap," admits to a "huge crush" on Hayley Mills, star of the 1961 version of film. "It was one of my favorite movies as a kid," said Quaid. Quaid's wife, actress Meg Ryan, was one of several who encouraged him to take the part in the film, he said in the August issue of Cosmopolitan. The movie tells the story of twins separated years earlier who meet and work to get their parents back together.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Director Steven Spielberg told the Daily News that he "wanted to show (World War II) the way it actually happened" in his new film, "Saving Private Ryan." Spielberg was answering criticism of the sometimes very grim view of the war in the film, which includes scenes of Americans committing atrocities. "I'm only holding a mirror up to what really took place," he said. "Saving Private Ryan" follows eight soldiers sent to bring a single private back from the fighting after all his brothers were killed in action.

PASADENA, California (CNN) -- NBC programming chief Warren Littlefield said Sunday that his network was actively seeking merger partners, and that "some of the possibilities that have been discussed are quite exciting." The Los Angeles Times reported last week that talks between NBC and USA Networks fell apart when a major USA stockholder, Edgar Bronfman Jr., balked at the idea. In the past year, exploratory talks have been held by parent company General Electric with Sony, Viacom and Liberty Media, the newspaper said.
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Hip-hop singer Queen Latifah said she wouldn't answer questions brought up by fans and critics over her new song "Get Off Minez," which features explicit, but ambiguous, lyrics. "I don't have any problems with my sexuality, whatever you think it is," said Latifah, whose real name is Dana Owens. "I'll never answer the question. I'd rather have you die wanting to know." Latifah co-starred for five years in the Fox sitcom "Living Single," and won a grammy in 1993 for her song "U.N.I.T.Y."
LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- CBS has announced it is planning a series of TV specials featuring Olympic gold medal figure skater Tara Lipinski, at 15 the youngest ever to bring home Olympic gold in the sport. The network has a pair of specials featuring figure skating in the works, along with a pair of competitions. "We're thrilled to showcase her," said network executive Terry Botwick.
