Jodie becomes a mom -- to Little Man Foster?

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Academy Award-winning actress Jodie Foster is the mother of a 7 1/2-pound baby boy. Publicist Pat Kingsley said that Charles Foster, Foster's first child, was born just before 6 a.m. Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She returned to her Los Angeles home with her son on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old actress plans to raise her child as a single mother; she is not married and has declined to identify a father. She won best actress Oscars in 1989 ("The Accused") and in 1992 ("Silence of the Lambs"), and made her directorial debut in 1991 with "Little Man Tate," about a mother raising a genius son.

'ET' stays home

HOLLYWOOD (CNN) -- "Entertainment Tonight" wasn't on hand for Tuesday's premiere of Steven Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan" -- because it wasn't granted the coveted first camera spot on the red carpet going into the theater. Spielberg's company DreamWorks gave the No. 1 spot to the lower-rated "ET" rival "Access Hollywood," and wouldn't change its mind. Although "ET" is produced by Paramount, which also co-produced "Saving Private Ryan" with DreamWorks, the show wouldn't budge on its policy of not covering premieres unless it has that spot. So "ET" stayed home instead.
