Letterman

Free Letterman tickets fetching up to $300

NEW YORK (CNN) -- How much would you pay for tickets to David Letterman's late night talk show? Believe it or not, some fans of Letterman's "Late Show" on CBS are shelling out up to $300 to attend a taping. CBS hands out the tickets for free to people who write in or apply online. But there's often a six-month wait, and scalpers are reportedly catering to those who can't hold out that long.

The city says it's apparently legal. A spokesman for New York's attorney general says since the tickets are free, there's no violation of the scalping law.

Electra and Rodman

Rodman, Electra fall far short of happily ever after

ORANGE, California (CNN) -- The honeymoon was awfully short. Dennis Rodman filed papers Monday seeking an annulment from his marriage to Carmen Electra. The pair apparently exchanged vows on November 14 in Las Vegas, but Rodman's lawyer says his client "was so inebriated at the nuptials that he didn't know which end was up."

Similar allegations came out right after the wedding, but Electra's publicist had said Rodman wrote and signed a note professing his love for Electra and apologizing "for any false statements given on my behalf regarding my marriage." Rodman's lawyer, Gerald Phillips, now says the note was forged. "My understanding is, the handwriting is not his. And it's not his language either. Dennis does not talk that way," he said.

Electra's publicist, Cindy Guagenti, denied the note was forged and said it was signed in her presence. But she said things soon went downhill. "Carmen and Dennis spoke several days ago and mutually agreed (to end the marriage)," Guagenti said. Rodman's agent, meanwhile, has suggested that Electra has ulterior motives for the marriage. Rodman, 37, stars for the NBA's Chicago Bulls, and is currently involved in the NBA lockout. Electra, 26, is a former star of the TV show "Baywatch."

Manson

Report: Marilyn Manson trashes hotel room

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Shock rocker Marilyn Manson trashed his hotel room and dressing room during a tour stop in upstate Poughkeepsie, the New York Post reports. Manson and his band members reportedly set fire to a T-shirt and carpeting and smashed expensive lighting equipment in their dressing room at the Poughkeepsie Civic Center before their Saturday night show. The fire was out by the time firefighters reached the arena, but officials warned the band that their concert would be canceled if they were called in again.

After the show, the group destroyed four rooms in the Poughkeepsie Sheraton, burning carpets and staining sinks with hair dye, said Donna McLean, the hotel general manager. McLean said Manson immediately took responsibility for the hotel damage and offered to pay for all of it. Interscope Records, the band's label, has not commented. Manson is currently in New York City, part of his tour of the album "Mechanical Animals." The rocker has caused controversy with his dark music and explicit lyrics about Satanism, suicide and sex.

Michael

George Michael denied bid to choose sentence

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- George Michael said Monday a judge rejected his request that he be permitted to serve 81 hours of court-ordered community service for lewd conduct by helping deliver meals to AIDS victims. Michael claimed the judge denied his bid in retaliation for Michael's comments about his arrest by a plainclothes policeman in a men's toilet.

"I have talked openly about police entrapment and in my latest video made light of recent events," Michael told reporters, reading from a statement. Michael said that when he was sentenced in May to community service, he asked to be allowed to help Project Angel Food, which delivers about 1,000 meals a day to people who are HIV-positive or have AIDS. Michael asked the judge to reconsider the sentence. As it stands, Michael will perform community service with a program that urges schoolchildren to do charity work.
