George Harrison wins apology, money over book claim

LONDON (CNN) -- George Harrison on Tuesday won a public apology and substantial undisclosed damages from the publishers and author of "All Dressed Up: The Sixties and the Counter Culture," a book that claimed the former Beatle demanded sexual favors from a young woman in return for a donation to charity. Harrison had brought a libel action against Random House (UK) Ltd. and Jonathon Green after Green's book was published last year.

"The allegation is untrue and the defendants now acknowledge this to be the case," Harrison's lawyer, Norman Chapman, told the High Court on Tuesday. The star did not attend the hearing. Giles Crown, the lawyer for Random House and Green, said both were very sorry for the damage and embarrassment they had caused. They agreed to pay Harrison's legal costs as well as damages. Random House already had withdrawn the book.

Hunter and Stewart, seen together in this 1996 photograph

Stewart, Hunter still trying to work things out

LONDON (CNN) -- For those who assumed the split between Rod Stewart and Rachel Hunter was inevitable, these words from Hunter: "We're just working things through." The couple announced last week that they were separating after eight years of marriage. But on Tuesday, Hunter told the Daily Mail newspaper that they were not ready for divorce. "I can't say what is going to happen but we are both trying our best at the moment," the supermodel told the paper, which said she was living just blocks away from the $28 million Beverly Hills mansion she and the singer used to share. Stewart and Hunter have two children together.

Stewart, who turned 54 over the weekend, told Britain's Sunday People newspaper: "I still love Rachel very, very much indeed and I hope and pray that she will eventually come back. There has been no bitter bust-up and no one else is involved. It is not about something I've done and it's not about something she has done."

Before marrying Hunter, Stewart had a reputation as one of rock's hellraisers. The gravel-voiced singer who reached superstar status with a string of hits such as "Sailing," "Maggie May" and "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" dated a string of beauties including Scandinavian film star Britt Ekland and model Kelly Emberg. He called one of his most famous albums "Blondes Have More Fun."

Davis

Geena Davis, not Joan Rivers, to host pre-Oscar show

PASADENA (CNN) -- Joan Rivers must be seeing red. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and ABC have named Geena Davis the host of an officially sanctioned pre-Oscar show on March 21, muscling in on talk show host Rivers and others who have made watching the stars walk into the ceremony a lucrative business. "The one thing I can guarantee that it will not include is anyone yelling, 'Who made your dress?'" Davis said Sunday.

During the show, other networks will be barred from televising the stars as they enter the awards venue, Los Angeles' Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. That puts a crimp in the plans of people like Rivers, who considers herself a fashion expert and critiques the actors' and actresses' outfits for E! Entertainment. Davis' show will be telecast on ABC, followed by the award ceremony.

Connery

Connery peeved over knighthood snub

GLASGOW, Scotland (CNN) -- Did the British government in February fail to give actor Sean Connery a knighthood because he is a longtime advocate of independence for Scotland? One thing is for sure: Connery isn't happy about being bypassed. "I think it lacks class on their part," the Scottish-born actor was quoted as saying in Monday's Glasgow Evening Times.

The Scottish National Party has already accused the British government of rejecting Connery because of his politics. The party, which Connery supports, is battling for seats in the 129-member Scottish Assembly, which will be elected in May. If the national party wins the most seats, it has promised to seek a referendum on full independence within four years.

Connery told the newspaper that it was "strange" how he'd played a knight in his latest film, "The Avengers." Describing the character of Sir August De Wynter as "a scoundrel, a blackmailer and a cheat," Connery said: "It makes you wonder at times what exactly is the criteria to qualify."

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Tony Danza couldn't stay away from Broadway for very long. The actor is returning to the Great White Way as Rocky the bartender in the revival of Eugene's O'Neill's "The Iceman Cometh." The part follows his summer run in the lead role of Arthur Miller's "A View from the Bridge." Joining Danza in the run of "The Iceman Cometh" will be Kevin Spacey, who appeared in the play's London productions. The play will open in April.
