Simon: DiMaggio had questions about famous lyric

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Baseball great Joe DiMaggio once had some questions for Paul Simon, the singer who penned the line "Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?"

Simon said the two met in a restaurant well after "Mrs. Robinson," the song containing the line, became a hit after being featured in the 1967 film "The Graduate." Writing in Tuesday's New York Times, Simon had to explain to the Yankee Clipper he meant no disrespect by the lyric.

"I'd heard a rumor that he was upset with the song and had considered a lawsuit, so it was with some trepidation that I walked over and introduced myself as its composer," Simon wrote. Simon said DiMaggio, who died Monday morning at age 84, was "perfectly cordial" and invited him to sit down.

"What I don't understand is why you ask where I've gone," DiMaggio, who was doing commercials for coffeemakers and a New York bank at the time, told Simon. "I haven't gone anywhere."

Simon said he told DiMaggio that "I thought of him as an American hero, and that genuine heroes were in short supply." DiMaggio accepted that and the two parted on a good note, Simon said.

Hanks

Tom Hanks hospitalized for infected blister

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Actor Tom Hanks has been hospitalized for an infected blister he got while shooting a new movie on the Pacific island of Fiji.

Hanks got a small blister on his right knee while filming "Cast Away," and was unable to keep the blister properly dressed.

The 42-year-old Oscar winner was told to remain overnight in a Los Angeles hospital.

He will miss the Academy Awards luncheon and another awards ceremony in Las Vegas later this week, spokeswoman Leslee Dart said.

Hanks wasn't able to keep the blister properly dressed because of Fiji's tropical climate and frequent filming in water, Dart said. When he returned to Los Angeles, the blister became infected and doctors advised him to stay off his feet for about a week.

Judge to Tommy Lee: Watch your step

MALIBU, California (CNN) -- A judge ruled Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee did not violate his probation by drinking, but gave Lee a warning that any further mistake could send him to prison.

Municipal Judge Lawrence Mira said he found no evidence to back up claims reported in the "New York Post" that Lee was out drinking alcohol with his bandmates at a Miami nightspot. But he reminded Lee that during his three-year probation term the rules of his probation prevent him from even entering an establishment where alcohol is sold.

Lee, whose probation term also requires him to attend anger management classes and undergo random drug tests, said he understood the restriction.

Lee pleaded no contest in April 1998 to kicking estranged wife Pamela Anderson Lee during a fight. Mira has also ordered him to stay at least 100 yards (meters) away from his the former "Baywatch" actress.

Tyler

Aerosmith's Tyler wins round in nude pix lawsuit

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler is trying to prevent the publication of nude photos of himself taken by his ex-wife.

New York State Supreme Court Justice Walter Tolub granted a temporary restraining order Monday that blocks the photos' publication until the issue gets settled at trial. Tyler claims his ex, Kathleen Tallarico, was supposed to give him the photos as part of their divorce agreement in 1987. Last summer, he said he saw a news item indicating she planned to publish "pornographic" pictures in a memoir.

Tallarico, an actress, wants to use the photos in the paperback edition of a book about her life titled "Dream On," said her lawyer, Jay Butterman. Tyler's real name is Tallarico as well.

The 50-year-old rock singer said in court papers that publication of the photos would embarrass and harm him. He claims his ex-wife can't use the nude pictures without his consent.

Tallarico said she gave Tyler all of his personal photographs at the time of the divorce agreement and that the dispute centers on "one of two campy photographs that he and I took of each other ... in the buff."
