Hospitalized George Jones made of 'tough stuff'
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (CNN) -- Country singing legend George Jones has been removed from a ventilator and is making progress in his recovery from a near-fatal car accident. "I think he's demonstrated very amply that he's made of tough stuff," Dr. Virginia Eddy said Tuesday. "On the one hand, he's very sick, he's extremely fragile. On the other hand, he's still doing better than I would have expected at this point," she added. He will likely remain hospitalized for the rest of the month. Jones, 67, has been in critical condition since crashing his sport-utility vehicle Saturday. He was talking on a cellular phone when he slammed into a bridge a mile from his home. Jones recorded such classics as "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and "A Good Year for the Roses."
For talk giant Larry King, it's back to baby talk
LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Talk show host Larry King, who's currently enjoying his seventh marriage, became a father again with the birth of baby, Chance Armstrong. King's wife, Shawn Southwick-King, gave birth to the 7-pound, 6-ounce baby boy late Tuesday. Chance is Ms. Southwick-King's second child and King's fourth, according to King publicist Deirdre Kline. The 64-year-old host of CNN's "Larry King Live" and his 38-year-old wife married in September 1997 in a Los Angeles hospital room, where he was being treated for heart troubles. It was his seventh marriage and her third. Queen honors 007 (Roger Moore) and Tom Jones
LONDON (CNN) -- Roger Moore found being honored by Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday a little more nerve-wracking than dodging bullets in her majesty's service. "I was a bit nervous, mainly because you don't get a rehearsal for this and I am used to having rehearsals before I perform," he said after the queen gave him the Commander of the Order of British Empire medal. Moore, 71, may be most famous for playing James Bond in the ongoing movie series, but it was his UNICEF campaign for children that won him the queen's recognition. He has been a special ambassador for the UN children's charity for almost a decade. "Working with UNICEF made me grow up and recognize how fortunate I am," Moore said. Tom Jones was honored for his services to music and entertainment and received an Officer of the Order of British Empire medal from the queen. "I didn't bring a hat," the 58-year-old singer joked, "because I thought it might mess up my hair."
Cher's ex-manager sues "stormy" artist for share of profits
LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Bill Sammeth, former personal manager for singer/actress Cher, filed a lawsuit to gain a 15-percent share of profits from the entertainer's hit album, "Believe." Sammeth says he was a close friend of the star for 22 years before he was fired as her personal manager without explanation, days before she sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl. "Cher, like many talented creative people, can be stormy," said Sammeth's lawyer, Henry Gradstein. "The only problem is that he is still entitled to be paid." Sammeth is credited as manager and given special thanks on the album cover, according to the lawsuit. Cher had no comment on the pending lawsuit, according to publicist Toni Howard. It seeks unspecified compensation and legal fees.
Persistent Rodman fan charged with making terrorist threats
SANTA ANA, California (CNN) -- A convicted stalker who allegedly sent hundreds of e-mail and telephone messages to get a date with Dennis Rodman has been charged with making terrorist threats. Marie Boguszewski, 36, of Bradley, Illinois, faces three counts of making terrorist threats and one count of electronic stalking. She could face up to five years in prison if convicted. The woman allegedly e-mailed and called Rodman's former agent, Dwight Manley Inc., hundreds of times to request a date with the basketball player. When Boguszewski learned that the messages were not forwarded to Rodman, she threatened to kill three employees of the agency, prosecutors said. Tori Richards, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney's office, said Tuesday that Boguszewski is in custody in Illinois for another charge.
