JSOW (Joint Stand Off Weapon)
DESCRIPTION: The JSOW is a new 1,000-pound smart bomb that can be launched from distances up to 40 miles from its target.
This is another in the new generation of "stand-off" weapons being developed to lessen the danger to pilots.
The weapon is called joint because it can be dropped from planes by the Air Force, Navy or Marines. The bomb is intended for use against troop concentrations or other targets which are protected by personnel. Its warhead contains 145 "bomblets," known in Pentagon parlance as "submunitions."
ANYTHING NEW? These are new weapons.
