B-2 Stealth Bomber
DESCRIPTION: The bat-wing B-2 stealth bomber has never seen combat and has been much criticized for its high price tag -- $2.2 billion a plane -- and outdated mission.
The Air Force touts the B-2 as able to strike 16 targets on one mission. The planes are based at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. They have a crew of two or three.
ANYTHING NEW? Designed during the Cold War to drop nuclear bombs, the B-2 has now been outfitted with a system to drop "near-precision" bombs.
B-2s have, in exercises, flown from their base at Whiteman AFB to Kuwait, dropped satellite guided bombs and returned to Missouri, demonstrating the ability to hit targets in Iraq from bases in the United States.
